Has anyone actually watched the Ranma 1/2 live action drama?

Because I finally got around to downloading it and I knew it was going to be terrible, but I didn’t know it was going to be so incredibly homophobic.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, the plot revolves around Ranma trying to find a magical spring hidden in Akane’s high school that turns any living creature into a man.. But also trying to find the spring is a group of evil okama (a Japanese word for effeminate gay men that in the wrong hands is really offensive) who want to turn the world into their own personal man heaven (because, you know, gay men have no need for women).

So yeah.. There are a lot of battles between Ranma and goons dressed up like Hard Gay and their boss is a guy with lipstick and feathers and just.. I just don’t even. The only reason I watched until the end was I kept hoping the show was lying to me and it wasn’t just an offensive train wreck unfolding before me.

I feel like all the good the manga did for me when I was a teenager was just spat on.

And I wonder if despite all the hype has no one actually watched it? Because as soon as I was done I ran to google to find others who share my rage, and there was no one. The most I found was a comment saying they didn’t agree with the homophobia but it’s “cultural context.”

NOT IN MY JAPAN IT ISN’T.

TL;DR Dear NTV please give me back my Ranma.
